The other day someone asked me why adjustments are so fast.  They had been asked that same question by someone that was trying to draw a connection between the length of an adjustment and the quality of the adjustment.  Here’s why an adjustment takes only a minute . . .

When I was in 4th year of chiropractic college one of my mentors asked me how long it took me to adjust my fiance (who later became my beautiful bride!).  He knew she was the most important person in the world to me.  I said “it takes about 60 seconds”.  He then asked me if I cared for my her, I said “Of course!”.  He then said “well, if Natacha is so cherished why would you only take 60 seconds to adjust her, wouldn’t that be uncaring to give her such horrible adjustments”?  I saw where he was going with this and said, “I would never give her a bad adjustment!  I focus and deliver the best possible adjustment possible and it takes 60 seconds”.  He responded by saying “so why would you waste your patients valuable time by being so unfocused that an adjustment would take 5, 10 or 15 minutes?”  . . . I got the point.

The quality of the adjustment is not dependent on time frame but on the focus, intention and the skill level of the chiropractor.

Another story will illustrate this point – suppose you were to go into a law office for advice and you were given the choice between a junior partner who charged $200 per hour or the senior partner that charged $600 per hour.  You, being thrifty, decided to go with the junior partner because after all a lawyer is a lawyer right?  So you go to the junior partner and ask him your question, he listens and goes to his bookshelf, pulls out a book, then another and then another.  After about 15 minutes he says I’m sure I can answer your question with a little bit of research I’ll call you when I have your answer.  You leave satisfied because you obviously saved money because you only used 15 minutes of his time and he will have your answer.  Two weeks later you get a call from his office to set up another appointment to get your answer.  You go back, get your answer and his bill.  His bill is for $1200 because it took him six hours to find your solution in a book.  On the other hand, you book your appointment with the senior partner and in 15 minutes you have your answer, no costly research because he has already done his research and your bill is $150.

I’ve done my research, when I diagnosis your problem it’s the right diagnosis the first time.  I will not waste your time in here.  I have committed to being up to date.  The reason we are so concerned with knowing the right answer the first time is because most people tell me that they have gone from doctor to doctor or chiropractor or whoever and they are still suffering with the same problems.  We will not waste your time with unfocused care or with trial and error.  You are too important to us and your health is too important to you.

By the way – I worry when my chiropractor takes more than a minute to adjust me and my wife takes even less time to get adjusted now.  The best and brightest chiropractors in the world take only a minute to adjust their patient’s.  I want the best for you – that’s why an adjustment takes only a minute.
