Be a Dream Chaser

“The purpose of life is not to arrive safely at death”

All In (by Mark Batterson)

There are many different ways you can live your life.  From the time my children were born, the one encouragement I have consistently given them is to go after the dreams in their heart.  A mentor of mine has repeatedly said if you want your children to go after their dreams, let them see you going after yours.  So, it isn’t enough for me to encourage my children to listen to their hearts and go after their dreams, they also need to see me going after mine.  If I walk my walk, they will be lifted and encouraged to walk theirs.

Seeing someone who is close go after their dreams is the same feeling you get after a good movie where someone really goes for it.  In the movie ‘Rudy,’ the main character is an undersized, under-talented kid with a huge dream of playing football at the University of Notre Dame.  Rudy came from a hard working family in a steel town where every member of his family went to work in the mill.  There is heavy pressure for him to do the same.  No one in Rudy’s family encouraged him to go to school, they all felt he should work in the mill and live a good, safe life.  In one of my favourite scenes, Rudy’s best friend Pete tells Rudy that ‘dreams are what make life tolerable.’  Rudy held on to his dream, and against all odds, he ended up chasing after his dream to play football at Notre Dame.  I’ll stop short of spoiling it for you, but if you need some encouragement – watch this movie!

Just like Rudy’s family, our world tells us to play it safe and avoid risk.  Imagine sitting on the shore looking out at the horizon, believing that the world ends beyond the flat line in the distance.  It was the people who were willing to step into their dreams who took the lead and showed everyone that our planet is round!  It is your choice to stay firmly rooted in a flat earth mentality, or to step up and go for it  – if you want to get your heart pumping and experience life to the fullest, risk going after the dreams in your heart.  The desire to play it safe is strong, but you’ve got what it takes!
