A couple of years ago I met a very bright lady named Anita. She came in like many do with back pain and had also just suffered a concussion two weeks prior. Headaches started as soon as she got up in the morning each day and she was having a lot of trouble focusing at work, especially when doing work on a computer. She came to a report and accepted our recommendations gladly. Over the next couple weeks she asked about her concussion symptoms and was happy to learn she could do exercises to not only mobilize her neck and improve her functional neurology (connect her brain to her body better), but also for her eyes.
Everyone coming to New Life has been given exercises that if done, can be game changers… Anita jumped into them, in fact she was just telling me yesterday, “it only takes a few minutes in the day!” We also talked about getting off screens as much as possible, so instead of watching tv or using her cell phone, she read a book instead. It was beautiful to see how fast she made gains. She improved so fast, that all of a sudden she was presented with a new problem, she could handle way more work and having lost an employee, her boss put a lot in her lap. The long hours were challenging, but she was able to make it through with flying colors, even though some of the concussion symptoms were still present!
Then she suffered a major setback. About six weeks ago she had a fall and to avoid hitting her head, she landed with all of her weight on her left shoulder. I’ve seen some severe bruising around a shoulder lots of times, but nothing as severe as Anita’s. At first there was an enormous amount of swelling and she completely lost movement in that shoulder, then dark black explosions of bruising started showing up around the shoulder and all down her arm. Losing the range of motion in your shoulder is dangerous because scarring happens very quickly and it can be permanently lost.
So, what did she do? Give up, throw in the towel and sit at home frustrated? No, she got to the office to be adjusted through the week and to my house on weekends. She followed all of the instructions, icing and heating and using castor oil and working tiny (to begin with) movement patterns and fighting to regain everything that had been taken. The result, she reached up with her left arm and rang the Miracle bell this week!!!
It is such a blessing to work with someone who is so coachable! And, many of you are the same, but maybe now is a good time to ask yourself, “Am I coachable? Am I doing the simple things it takes to create habits that will bring me abundant health and allow me to have joy in this life with the people I love?”
“My prayer is that people would realize by being ‘coachable’ they are investing in their health not just for today, but long term. It’s not the chiropractor that needs the exercises, it’s them. When I signed up, I signed up to invest in my health and with that I am fully committed to do whatever to improve my health. I knew that without a complete miracle it would not happen over night, it’s a process. My bible says I can live to 120 years old and I can live an abundant life – which will require my participation. I’m so glad to have met you and your team, together I will attain my health goals – I just know it! Thanks for all you do.” (Our very own) Anita

ps – we loved Anita’s amazing, “can do” attitude so much we eventually hired her!
