Migraine Headache Relief

Chiropractic Treatment Can Help with Migraine Headaches

Our Barrie Chiropractic Clinic can help with migraines by doing what chiropractic does best. Specifically, scientific adjustments are delivered to the spine, correcting misalignments, alleviating inflammation and the mechanical pressure of abnormal alignment on the spinal cord, and allowing the brain and spinal cord to return to normal function... which does not include migraine symptoms!

Is there a lasting benefit to chiropractic treatment of migraines?

Chiropractors using a spinal reconstruction approach go beyond eliminating short term pain and symptoms by progressively re-training the spine into proper alignment. Depending on previous levels of damage, this can and often does make a complete and permanent change. Contact New Life Chiropractic to explore treatment options.

What triggers a migraine?

Migraines can have many triggers including things like red wine and chocolate, but much more common is mental/emotional stress. What’s important is to realize these triggers are not the cause of the migraine, but simply a trigger that sets them off. For the person who suffers migraines, they should definitely avoid whatever triggers they know cause short term consequences, but more importantly eliminate the underlying cause of the problem – most often due to choking pressure on the spinal cord.

Dr. Brad shares a personal migraine story

“Migraines and headaches can take the joy out of the day, and they literally steal away your life. And they don’t just affect you. I remember when I was growing up, I would come home from school too often to find Mom was locked up in the bedroom, curtains drawn, trying to sleep in the darkness.  Sometimes when she did come out, I could see she was in terrible pain. She wouldn’t say much, but made comments like, it felt like her head was going to explode.

My brother and I didn’t understand. We were worried and wondered if Mom would be okay. Mom would take pills to try to get by and keep functioning and sometimes they helped, but often they didn’t and the headaches always kept coming back, regardless of what she took.  When they did work, the pills were only a temporary fix.

Those days weren’t much fun, but years later I decided I might like to become a chiropractor, so I started visiting chiropractic offices. It was right here at a chiropractic office in Barrie where I brought my Mom for her first spinal check-up. It wasn’t long after Mom started being adjusted that the migraine headaches started to go away, and by a couple of months in, her last migraine was in the past!

In my 20+ years of practice it has been a beautiful blessing to help hundreds of migraine sufferers (and their families!) get back to living the life they were meant to live.

Pain is always your body telling you there is a problem and the excruciating and often debilitating pain and symptoms that come from a migraine headache are a gigantic warning sign that you may have significant spinal misalignment. Particularly in the upper part of the neck, the junction between the brain and the rest of the body, and that it’s putting choking pressure on your spinal cord as it travels through.

Parents, spouses, kids, everyone ends up being part of the suffering. So, if you or someone you know suffers from migraines, and I say this with all my heart, please hit the button to call and come to see if we can help.”

What is a migraine?

A migraine happens when the nervous system dysfunctions in such a way that causes the blood vessels to and within the brain to constrict and not allow proper blood flow to areas of the brain. This is why migraines are characterized by not only severe pain, but changes to vision (aura), causes sensitivity to loud noises and smells and often causes nausea.

Who suffers from migraines and how long can they last?

Anyone can suffer from migraines – young, middle aged and elderly and male or female, although the highest incidence is seen in females in their late teens up to middle age. They will typically last hours to days and in some rare cases even weeks. Most typical is for a migraine to start one day and be alleviated by a full night’s sleep.

What is the difference between a headache and a migraine?

The difference between a headache and a migraine is a headache is caused by pressure on the nervous system, while what happens in a migraine is likened to a central nervous system spasm, typically causing more extreme pain as well as other neurological symptoms.
