A few weeks ago I had the blessing of showing a great patient of ours significant improvements in the C curve in her neck. I am happy to say I get to do this sort of thing every week, but what made this so special? This lady is in a phase 3, and after coming for years, we still didn’t see any more than a slight improvement in the C curve – her neck had remained straight. She felt good most of the time and her movement was good, but this year she finally decided to follow some simple advice. She committed to doing her neck traction.
The result – not only did she feel better and move better – she actually saw much of the C curve form (for the first time in decades and maybe even her entire life!)
It’s a great story, but it gets better… yesterday she came in for her weekly adjustment and had the pamphlet that came with the traction. She asked a question about the exercise, then said as she pointed to the date on the paper when she was first given the traction, “If I had only done my exercise, (I would have had this change then).” I agreed. The date on the paper was March 2016! And she was absolutely right, if she had done the simple exercise of laying on a block of foam once a day eight years ago, she would have started to re-develop the “C” way back then.
For all of you who are actively training your body and helping to reconstruct your spine by staying committed to your corrective exercises – way to go, you’re awesome! And your hard work is paying off.
For those who are not, remember when we first looked at your x-rays, and you knew deep in your heart things had to change? Remember how we sat together and you committed to consistently working on your corrective exercises? It would have been better if you had done them then (a year ago, two, five, ten years ago…), but it is even more important now! We can’t change what is done or not done from the past, but get started now and you could be saying, “If I had only done them back then,” the next time we look at your x-rays!
God Bless,
