Wash Your Hands!

Ah, back to the school year! Days are getting shorter and sooner or later will start getting cooler too. The holiday season is behind us and colds and flu’s will coming too. What is your best defense against these nasty bugs? Get adjusted and… like Mom says, “Wash your hands!” Washing your hands frequently is the easiest way to wipe out germs and reduce your chances of becoming sickened by them. It has been shown time and time again that washing your hands with plain old soap and water can kill viruses that cause: The common cold, Hepatitis A, Acute gastroenteritis and other illnesses. In fact, studies have found that soap and water work better than waterless, alcohol based hand wipes and rubs. Antibacterial liquids and soaps should be avoided altogether. These products kill both good and bad bacteria, thereby contributing to the development of the antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Furthermore, the active ingredient in most antibacterial products is triclosan, an antibacterial agent that not only kills bacteria and inhibits growth but has also been shown to kill human cells! So we need to wash our hands, but did you know that there is a way to wash your hands effectively?

Wash your hands with warm water, work up a good lather all the way up to your wrists for at least 10 to 15 seconds. Don’t forget to get all surfaces including the backs of your hands, wrists, between your fingers and an area often overlooked- your fingernails. Also, and just as important – don’t touch your eyes or your mouth while you are out in public. (They are the primary portals of entry).

Other ways to support your immune system and avoid getting ill are: getting a good nights sleep, minimizing stress in your life, exercising regularly and effectively, avoid sugar and grains and instead eat plenty of raw foods and last but not least stick to your chiropractic adjustment schedule! Research now shows that if you get adjusted regularly for years your immune system is doubly as strong as the average person, for months, there are massive gain and it has even been shown a single adjustment boosts your immune system! The last immune system boosting recommendation is easy for all of you, give your friends and family who do not know Chiropractic the opportunity to get and stay well too.
